Humanitarians, veterans and medics met at the Frontline Club to discuss what Gaza is teaching the world about care for child amputees.

On 17 September 2025 LSN held a panel at the Frontline Club in London on amputee care in Gaza, where the war has created an acute crisis in care for child amputees.

Nicholas Mellor chaired the panel. The panellists were Edward Hall, co-founder of Restoring Hope; Professor Shehan Hettiaratchy; Dave Henson MBE PhD; Sarra Ghazi, Director of Save the Children Fund Iraq; and Stuart Croxford.

The discussion traced how lessons from amputee support in Ukraine led to the Restoring Hope programme in Gaza. Panellists described the clinical challenges in Gaza, the experience of living with limb loss, what has been achieved so far, and the research needed to improve services for children wherever they are. The evening drew on LSN’s work in the UK with Imperial College London and the prosthetics company Koalaa, in Ukraine, and in Gaza with the Restoring Hope Society.
