A Frontline Club panel, co-hosted by LSN and Medaid, on scalable responses to PTSD and war trauma in Ukraine.
On 13 November 2025 LSN and Medaid co-hosted an evening at the Frontline Club in London on Ukraine’s mental health crisis. Soldiers and veterans struggle with PTSD and related conditions. The wider population lives with bombardment, bereavement, displacement, family separation, and the anxiety and depression that come with life in a country at war.
The panel looked at responses that can be scaled up. Professor Walter Busuttil, former Medical Director and Director of Research at Combat Stress, spoke alongside Father Vitaliy Novak, former head of Depaul in Ukraine, who now serves in the Ukrainian armed forces and has seen the mental health challenges facing soldiers and veterans at first hand.
Dennis Ougrin, Visiting Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Global Mental Health at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London, described his work with professionals around the world to help Ukrainian children affected by the war. It includes art-based workshops and digital problem-solving interventions for depression and anxiety in displaced children.
The panel also discussed the psychosocial support courses run by Moe Kolo, which Medaid co-founded in Lviv in 2023.
